Maintenance, repairs, testing and much more for your catering unit. Or even a deep clean?
You may have a little repair job or a combination of items that need taking care of. You might be considering changing your food offering or how your unit is set up.
Either way, the team at 4Sure are experienced in all types of repairs and alterations. The first step is to pick up the phone and speak with us, or just drop us an email with your details and what you want to be done. We’ll talk through your requirements, give you a quote and then you can decide how best to get your vehicle to us. We can do emergency repairs on site, depending on the nature.
Our quotes are always fair and transparent. Obviously when we inspect the unit at first hand, we get a better idea of what needs to be done. We’ll talk to you straight away to agree any changes to our quote, up or down, if that’s needed. But there will never be any nasty cost surprises when your vehicle is ready, and we’ll always stick to the agreed turnaround time.

The types of maintenance and repairs we carry out
It’s anything you can think of to do with a catering unit. That includes:
- Kitchen equipment changes
- Anything electrical, power, lighting etc.
- Anything to do with LPG and gas
- Complete change or repairs to branding and menu displays on the unit
- Floor, wall and ceiling repairs
- Accident damage repairs
- Anything to do with trailer mobility and trailer safety
The only thing we can think of we don’t take care of, if you have a vehicle conversion, is the vehicle itself. Otherwise we do it all.

Want to change the way your unit works, your food offering or configuration?
Maybe you want to change the type of food you offer? Or add something to your offering? Maybe you want to see if you can increase output? Or you realise you need an extra person to help and that needs a change in configuration? Whatever you’re looking for, chances are we can do it. Just call and ask.

The benefits of a deep clean – why bring a unit to us?
All the units we build are designed to be easy to clean with no hidden dirt, food or grease traps so they will always look good and be hygienic. There’s no doubt a regular deep clean will benefit any kitchen and we always recommend you carry one out on a regular basis. As you’ll know, it will go deeper (no pun intended) from what can easily become a routine at the end of a working day.
The advantage of bringing your catering trailer or vehicle to us is we have people who are experienced in cleaning all types of catering vans and trailers, the right tools and machinery and materials designed for deep cleaning. It’s not always their favourite job, as you can imagine, but they are very good at it.
Here’s what we cover in a classic deep clean:
- Dismantle, where needed, ovens, cookers and other equipment so that relevant parts can be left to soak and clean in a dip-tank in a non-caustic, environmentally solution so they are clean as new
- Apply good old-fashioned elbow grease to remove all burnt food residue from the inside and outside of cookers and ovens
- All parts are then refitted and wiped down
- Defrost fridges and freezers and thoroughly clean them
- Clean ventilation and extraction units (an important one this)
- Clean the ceiling, lighting, floors and walls
- Clean the exterior thoroughly and touch up any minor areas of damage that harm appearance
When it comes back to you, your whole unit, the equipment, the walls, the serving hatch and the flooring will be sparkling clean. Your unit and equipment might not look exactly like brand new, but it will be the next best thing. You won’t be the only ones to notice, your customers will too.
How testing and maintenance is required to keep you on the right side of safe and legal?
You may already be aware you have a legal duty to carry out maintenance work and re-certification on a regular basis. Most reputable events and councils will only let you trade once you have provided them with relevant documentation. So even though some of these areas are ‘recommended’, without confirmation your unit has been inspected and deemed ‘safe’ within a reasonable period (12 months is most likely), they will not allow you to trade.
Assuming you have ambitions to grow your business, employ staff, invest in more vehicles and trailers to generate higher revenues, our best advice to you is to get the testing done regardless of legal duty or recommended schedules.
This is where we keep you totally safe – when you work with us to complete your maintenance and testing, our systems allow us to contact you and get you booked in prior to expiry of your current certificates.
I can see just two reasons not to get your outlets inspected. No 1 is the cost of doing so and No 2 is the inconvenience of getting these tests completed.
But when you work with us to keep you safe, we’ll come up with an arrangement that allows these works to be affordable. Secondly, we’ll liaise with you and complete the works at a time where the disruption either wouldn’t affect your business or when you can minimise disruption as much as possible.

We work with several clients with a fleet to be maintained, where we attend their base and do it all there, saving them money in fuel and transportation costs and their valuable time.
The right certification will often protect you against an employee claiming for an accident at work or one of your customers doing the same. No recent inspections puts you on the back foot.
Exactly what should be tested to best protect your unit, your team and your legal liability?
Some of the tests and work will be:
- Inspection and testing of the fixed wiring in your catering unit – recommended every 12 months by a competent person – to check for problems which may not be immediately apparent. Regular testing also allows for the results to be compared year-on-year so any trends of possible failure can be spotted to prevent break downs. As we are members of NICEIC, our team of qualified sparkies also get visited and inspected annually so we’re always certified to do your work.
- Portable appliance testing (PAT) – the frequency of tests for these appliances can vary, your fixed appliances must be checked every 12 months and your handheld appliances as frequently as 6 monthly. PAT testing was introduced to help check the maintenance of electrical appliances mainly in accordance with:
- Health and Safety at Work Act 1974
- The Electricity at Work Regulations 1989
- The Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998
- The Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations of 1999
- Inspection, testing and servicing of your LP gas catering appliances and installation pipework (including but not limited to the gas bottle storage facility plus having adequate ventilation installed for both the main working area and the gas bottle compartment). As a minimum you are required to prove your gas appliances and pipework are safe. To achieve this, an annual Gas Safety check must be carried out by a Gas Safe engineer who has the relevant qualifications to work on your appliances. You will receive a full certificate each year which details that the pipework and appliances are safe for use.
- Inspection of your gas systems also includes checks on what extraction you have in place to keep fresh air entering the area and also checks the levels of CO and CO² in specific areas after specific durations. In the event your current gas certificate / engineer doesn’t test and record the results for these gases, you may as well throw your certificate in the recycling bin.
- Road worthy trailer servicing. Our team will keep your unit safe for use on the road, in addition to checking your tyres, lighting and braking systems, when your unit comes in for a running gear service. Again, you have a duty to ensure any vehicle you use on the public highways is safe and fit for purpose
- You can rest assured we carry out a thorough check of your whole unit externally to make sure bolts are tight, rivets are in place and everything remains secure. This is one of the most thorough checks you’ll find anywhere

Call us on 01536 202 944 to book in. If it’s possible we’ll give you a price there and then and we’ll tell you how long we require your unit for. If it’s a minor repair, we may even be able to get it done while you wait. Let’s do these works in your down time if we can, so we can keep you earning money.
